I was able to move a work visit to the SF Bay Area to coincide with Manny's Birthday Ride, so I was able to partake of the powdery-dirt, dead-grass kind of riding they do around here. We had a blast, someone broke a spoke, and I only know about one flat.
We rode up from the San Leandro BART station after noon, and took a ride around Lake Chabot. We passed by a full Mexican Brass Band--they kicked in right after we passed out of sight, and it was excellent to have a big tuba motivating you. We did a fair amount of good dirt riding (actually, all of the ride excepting the streets leading to the park was on dirt), and lots of quick rolling trails, with good speed and pretty easy climbs. There was one great climb out from a golf course (now I know the golf course that Manny & Tommy got those balls from), with a side trip along some excellent singletrack. My friend took a spill on the last little bit to the campground, but we were able to patch him up. It's pretty obvious that Manny is a teacher, watching him apply a bandage to my friend's hand. Pictures prove it happened, but don't show any of the EXCELLENT food Manny's family brought up for the party. SO MUCH CHICKEN. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lumachrome/sets/72157635127019597/ cc PS: There was a old RockHopper that I have at my parent's house, that I rivified the rear end the night before, with some nice parts. My parents were mildly amused that I would fly in and immediately get to work "fixing" this bike. When I'm down in six weeks next I'll try and fix up the cockpit--the bars are WAY too low. -- "I want the kind of six pack you can't drink." -- Micah -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
