Got the opportunity to do a Meet your Maker Ride Overnight in Skyline Park of Napa. Met and geeked out with some bike folks; many that make really nice frames. Curtis of Retrotec & Inglis Cycles was the man with the plan who led the pre-ride the night before the race. Skyline park was no joke. I found out after the race that the course used routes from the MTB world championship. Really hard, gnarly course, even had a special Rick Hunter Gnarly section. Pretty funny to be riding it with my Hillborne. I was able to drag Tom and Brendan who came with their vintage Ibis and fat-bike Pugsley, respectively. Which made us stick out like sore thumbs during the ride. No problem despite our different bikes or attire we still had a blast and didn't die during the ride. I hoped that Brendan and Tom were planning to race but after the pre-ride they decided that they liked their teeth. The pre-ride went well found out that there was a lot of running and a lot of stupid downhill steps. Perfect for my type of riding. So I raced with my Hillborne and it wasn't that bad. Lots of the downhill and plowed through with the only knobbie tires that would fit my clearance some prototype Old Cazadero tyres from Soma Fabrication that Evan let me try. Was doing well till slow leaked and pinched flat during the final lap. User error running way to low. Hell the whole damn race was user error. Had to walk the rest of the way back. By the looks of lots of the racers they thought I was clearly riding the wrong bike. I didn't think I was riding the wrong bike. Felt fine. Had a blast regardless of the flat.
