Yes, you are getting older but if you are comfy on your old bike, than I wouldn't change it. 1.5cm of handlebar drop isn't really too much of a racing fit anyway, that's less than my riv-ish fit. Ride whats comfortable and don't get too hung up on matching the look of other Riv style bikes.

Wanted your thoughts and experience on this issue I have been having with my Riv's. I know this sounds rediculous, but: *I am wondering if you had any trouble adapting from race geometry fit bikes you were used to riding, to the more upright-like rivendell bikes and how you got through it.*

You are on the right track getting the contact points the same as your current road bike. I recently went through lower back pain and it was just having the seat to far back on the rails. I put a lugged seat post on that moved it back considerably. No back pain on today's ride..knee pain
