Matt, are you sure you don't mean a fixed gear? Braking with a single speed
equipped with caliper brakes is the same as braking with a bike with a
derailleur. If you are not used to braking on a fixed gear and simply stop
your pedaling motion when you apply the brake, you may nearly do a header.
That was a superbe deal on the Quickbeam. I saw it just after it got
posted and cringed that it was not a 58. I'm not particularly interested
in a singlespeed, but I have been curious to try one. I gave it a shot a

The oldest, original Homers had 132.5mm spacing. So you can go either 130
or 135 without issue.
