I run mine with a 11-36t (10 speed) in the back with a 38t ring up front (1x setup). Gets me up most hills with a load around here. I have a 110 bcd crank on it, but if I had something with a granny option I would add that small ring to it without the front derailer so I'd have a bail out

Cool ride! And cool bike! Boscos! I've been wondering about those 718 trips. Was it a good bunch? I wish we New Yorkers didn't have to get on a train to get to some decent bicycling. If I were you I would go up to a triple if you wanna do lots more long rides like this, but at least a double.
