I do want to clarify that I was happy to hear that there are no cable
hangers on the Canti Sam/ Atlantis so I could buy them before the day I
decide to build the bike (that's happened before!). And I have ridden
V-brakes and I totally agree that they stop way better than cantis. But I'm

Just guessing, but I think the reason for the cable stops would be the same as
no canti hangers: less parts needed. Most people are going to run a Sam with
shifters on bars because - as the new catalogue mentions - Riv's tall
headtubes/bars motif makes DT shifters a very long reach. So you

Inline cable barrel adjusters . You can place them wherever you wish inline.
I have the Jagwire brand.

Hi, Y'all:
I have a slightly OT que regarding canti-SAM.
Instead of the brazed on DT cable stops, why not posts for either stops or
DT shifters? Using barend levers, but w/out the barrel adjusters no way to
pull up or release rear D cable slack w/out stopping and fiddling with
adjustment at
I have to agree, having a brazed on canti hanger "hanging" there unused while
using v-brakes would bother me for whatever unsound reason...
I have one of Surly's cable hangers, very similar to Nitto's. They really do
an elegant job of the whole thing.

Grant,
Thanks for the clarification. I was just staring at the Sam frame and
scratching my head, wondering what 3rd-party hangers would be compatible
(but hadn't asked Mr. Google yet). Will ask you guys instead, much better.

We have cable hangers, diff kinds front and rear..it's just (now) one of
the things you pick. When we included short adjustables, people wanted long
ones, and vice versa. So now you just get the one you want, you plunk out
$10 or whatever it is, and everybody happy, unless you think it should
Shameless plug - if someone wants a nice set of silver Paul Motolite...
$180 shipped for the pair, thanks :)

I recall when Riv sold v-brakes in the past and they passed on and
disappeared until recently with the Clem and mega long chainstays and 60mm
tires.
I wanted to try them way back when but the cable pull issue killed it for me. I
ride with reverse levers and no one makes them for v's.
I dig the Motolite, but I dig everything Paul Components does. My single-speed
coaster-brake Dahon folder has only one brake lever for the front caliper, so I
put a gold Paul E Lever on it. Swanky!

Hahaha aw, I like the motolite. It’s almost bauhausian and kinda badass in its
function over form design.though I understand it not being for everyone

If the Mini-moto had enough clearance for the tires I like, I would run
those exclusively. Unfortunately, PAUL's long-pull moto-lite is ugly as
sin.

I understand (to a point) the aesthetics issue, but holy moly v-brakes really
do work well. Easier to set up, too.

I'm with you... I am not a fan of V-brakes at all as far as aesthetics go.
Looks like someone ran out of brakes and slapped on a mountain bike part
they had laying around the garage.
Canti's or standard road brakes for me. :)
Then again, I don't do heavy loaded touring where every ounce of
Thanks for mentioning this. I'm waiting for a new Atlantis and I just
realized there are no cable hangers. I have noticed how Riv has been
pushing V-brakes but I just can't go there. Even if they stop better, they
are just too ugly for me. I've always loved the look of cantis and you get

Joe, thanks, makes sense. As a newish Riv owner and board browser, I hadn't
put that together.
Cheers,

I haven't used cantilevers in years and my least favorite part of my quickbeam
is actually the attached cable stop haha. It adds money to frame cost to put it
there and I'd bet Riv thought any one could source the hanger from a local bike
shop. In any case if any one needs a rear one I should
Yes, but that wasn't the point of the question. As I said, no big deal
(cheap/easy to get). I was just curious why they weren't included (like on
my old Atlantis) on a frame that is labeled as "Canti".
But as someone else already mentioned, I wasn't thinking about v-brake
users.
On Wednesday,
are we just talking about the binder bolt rear hanger and a front headset
spacer hanger? you can get those at any bike shop for next to nothing.

Gotcha, that makes sense.
I have a set of these I wanted to use...

But aren't they marketing this as the "Canti-Sam"? It doesn't seem like a
huge deal either way, but I'd expect at least a rear hanger on the bike. I
suppose that if you do run it with V-brakes, you get slightly cleaner lines
with no hanger.
