i'm kicking myself for not getting in on the Clem presale before it closed.
my fingers are crossed that someone decides they dont love their 52cm and
sells it to me! haha. if youre reading this and want to let yours go, DM
me! otherwise i hope the upcoming Appaloosa is rad

They only posted those pics., with bikes set up that way, to taunt me,
personally: "See - you really SHOULD have ordered the 52, and the 59 that
you *did* order really IS going to be too big."

I hope undorky. Perhaps geeky? I don't know, except that I'm about to pop
from waiting! As I've spent time looking at the various guises of the
Clem/Clementine, the 'ugly bike' concept that was discussed at their
introduction becomes more clear. They're not ugly, of course, maybe
'gangly'
Hahahaha, Bike size is one of my biggest fears with Riv. I'm about the same
size as Grant, so you'd think it wouldn't be an issue, but like you, I seem
to fit 2 sizes on every bike they make. The Clem is an exception. I
fit right in the middle of the 52 size range. I'd guess that 59 Clementine
Hello Tim! Welcome! My Clem will also be my first Riv as well. My PBH is
84, and I'm getting a 52.

I too fretted over the 52 and 59. My PBH is 90 and saddle height 79. I went
with the 59 and after seeing the most recent photos on the blug it somewhat
reaffirmed my decision as I wouldn't have wanted a 52 with that much post and
stem showing.
-first time post, first time riv owner, hello
The Cheviot also only comes in three sizes. I am getting a 52 Clem(entine).
I don't think it's a matter of "making the 52 work," despite the fact that,
at 5'10" and with a seat height around 74cm, I normally ride 58-60cm

Having a bike with a very low top tube, I can testify to one reason to
get the top tube right up there: frame bag space. I love my Surly
Krampus and appreciate the lower top tube, but still I envy the other
riders whose frame bags can hold more than a tube and some tools.

I like this line of thinking. It does seem like like getting that top tube
right up there is mostly for tradition. My Clem is going to be a smaller
than I would normally ride, so it looks like my seatpost and handlebars
will be hiked up dork fashion.

They're half-lugged, half welded, have bendy seatstays, and a
cartoonish-looking rear derailer with Big Wheel pulleys. They're
*intentionally* dorky!

It seems like with the limited frame sizes the handlebar rise has to be out
of proportion to fit a rider that might normally need a larger frame. If
you usually ride a 56 you'd have to make the 52 work.

Conversely, this would put me on a 45cm with a low standover height. After
years of riding folders with the frame *way down there*, my creaky
53-year-old body has completely lost the plot on towering toptubes. They're
up there in the way for no reason other than most nice bikes used to look
Obviously, as the pre-sales sold out weeks ago, "dorky" is the latest "in
thing" on the cutting-edge fashion scene.

Who knows, because dorky has no clear definition. I think the bikes look
awesome.

Could they have made the bikes look any more dorky on the blog?

Ah, I can smell it in the air... it's nearly OCTOBER And with that can
we expect to hear (soon) that the Clems/intines are lining up for
shipment???

Personally, I am going to live with this bike, and ride it a good while
before contemplating any upgrades. By that, I mean replacing replacing any
of the original components with different items. Because I do plan to
accessorize right away with a Pletscher rear rack, fenders, water bottle
I was surprised at how much I liked the Bosco bars. When given a choice, I
prefer Bullmoose bars, but the way the Bosco felt was really nice. I think
it's perfect on the Clem. I was expecting beach cruiser and instead got
a less upright, more natural posture. I'll probably upgrade the

It did happen when I was living in Berkeley around 2009, when a truck blew up
and melted a section of the 580(?) coming off the bay bridge. They had a huge
financial incentive for finishing early and a huge
Depends on how you intend to ride. I found the Sam and Clem to be pretty
different bikes (both fantastic). I love my Sam more than any bike I've
ever owned and can ride it as a road/club ride bike or a trail bike (with a
wheelset swap). I could see setting up a Clem as a really fun trail
I hope they deliver the bikes well before Thanksgiving! It will be hard
enough waiting until Halloween.

Glad to see they sold out. Went into the store to check out a Clementine
for my wife, we road them around, she was sold and insisted that I get
a Clem for myself.

That is exceedingly good, since their biggest problem as a business is
cashflow. Their Taiwan suppliers want their money up front. Now that
shipment 1 of the Clems is pre-sold, Riv should have the money on hand to
pay the supplier the moment the shipment is ready. That's great for them.
congrats to the buyers. I just couldn't pull the trigger but have a

Really good to hear! I was a bit worried because it seemed like they were
(and still are) taking a big gamble with the whole Clem/Chev/Appa push in
place of their regular framesets and in-house builds. I'm glad it's
working out for them and I can't wait to see people's Clems. I still wish
