Yes! I believe that will be a success. I look forward to the ride reports on
it.
Patrick, your fantasy fixed Legolas might be cleaner than mine, but couldn’t be
nicer than mine. A 58 simply doesn’t measure up, proportionally.

A 62cm Quickbeam/SimpleOne built for gears with standard dropouts and

the look of 1" threadless with a beautiful custom steel stem).

Ha! Philip and Patrick of the Moore — the proof of concept of the custom

I just realized my "custom" is actually a stock 52cm cantilever Hilsen with
a custom color. Perhaps a Pear Green, then.

I saw a guy on an old, steel, fully rigid specilized stumpjumper riding the

That's my thinking, too, Keith. I momentarily paused on "Do I want my fancy
pricey custom to be my do everything street-and-dirt bike?", and settled on
definitely. If I'm spending that kinda dough on a bicycle, I want it out at the
bike park in all it's fancy glory, mixing it up with the $6000 b

slightly shorter chainstays; all-lugged construction. Done.
I know that the Clem was conceived as a 'beater' bike of sorts, but why
shouldn't the bike I ride 75% of the time be my nicest? If/when I do a

I'm still on the fence with the long chainstays Rivendell is making just
because I haven't ridden them yet. I have high hopes for my coming

What I really want in a custom is a canti post mixte frame that can take at

I agree that 650B makes a great deal of sense with smaller frames.
I have been thinking of a bike for that (talked about *ad nauseam*) AM hub,
and dithering whether I want 26" wheels or 700C wheels. Perhaps it would be
an opportunity to try 650B for the first time.

'cause I'm not designing from an existing bike, I'm specing my custom. The
Rivendell Mountain used 26" wheels because that's what mtbs used when that bike

Also there's a boatload of tires available, which looks to be
Curious: you're the second person to specify 650B as a custom change from
700C or 26". Why the preference?
