I'm with Brian I run the XT that Riv sells. Happy with it. Richard I'd drop Riv
a line and get their. 02. Good luck.

Hi All,
Thanks to everyone who offered feedback, I will definitely be taking all
your advice into consideration. :) Hopefully I will be soon riding and
shifting quietly along!
Sincerely,
Richard

How does the drivetrain work on that? Freehub in the middle, connected by
shafts to non-freewheeling splined hubs?

Actually, looking back, what I really did was kick the chain down to the
granny with my toe, not heel -- pedaling backward, I'd have to nudge the
bottom run of the chain and that would require me to use the tip of my shoe.
I wish I could trackstand! trackstanding and foot-shifting would be a
prett
I read "for-went" as "went for" three times in a row. Opposite meanings!
Heel shifting sounds pretty awesome. Upshifting harder than downshifting. I
guess that would be toe shifting?
I am going to try this on the Gravel Roadster - two rings, no FD, and I'm
okay at track standing.

But don't buy the Sora triple. It breaks. I had three (multiple bikes) and
one-by-one they all broke in the exact same way. When I got the three for my
bikes, my mindset was "inexpensive ones work just as well." That has still
almost always been the case for me, and I can't speak about other mo
Though RBW does tell you with triples the Shimano FD can be "touchy." And I
think the CX derailleur Riv sells doesn't wrap enough chain for a triple. I
used to be of the mind you always get what you pay for and I love Shimano
products. But…. the last couple years I've tried less expensive compon
There's nothing wrong with a 105 FD , let alone any FD !If it's
rubbing, it's either because it's not mounted and adjusted correctly and/or
excessive lateral chainring movement , which can be caused by loose
chainring bolts, bent rings, and/or poor manufacturing tolerances in the
arms them
I really like the Ultegra CX70, but find myself adjusting it frequentlywith
rear shifts (I have two different tones it makes down now so I know which
way to adjust) . If you want a wider cage, you might want to look for an
older 9-speed FD

plus, have you checked to make sure the front derailleur is parallel with
the chainrings and all that? And the proper height above the chainrings?

On the Sweetpea, I just switched from a Tiagra to this one to this
one: http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/d11.htm
Test ride around a bunch of blocks with hills and gravel went well.
Friction, shifts cleanly. Sugino triple/Phil Wood bb.
The Riv has the same Sugino triple with a Shimano-something
That's what I'm talkin' about! 'Cept mine had a bell in place of the
left-hand dts. (And mine had pedals.)

No; I ran a compact double -- forget exactly what, but it was something
like 44/30. Stronglight 99, IRC! (Or was that "93"?) In any case, 86 bcd.

Sorry, Deacon, that only works with Tricycles. I for-went the fd on my
erstwhile Ken Rogers, and it was really, really fun to be able to stop dead
on a hill, unclip on the right, backpedal with the left, and kick the chain
onto the granny with my right heel, clip in again on the right, and start
up

For a radical approach that I find freeing and amazing ... I got rid of my
FD, have a 38t middle narrow-wide ring (holds the chain on very solidly)
and a 24t granny that I can stick shift to when needed (which hasn't been
in the 6 weeks since I switched other than to test it).
With abandon,
