I did the metric century version on an Atlantis with 2" Schwalbe Duremes. Jack, if you think the trail past Port Costa was cow-a lish-ous, you should have seen it at the end of March during a training ride the person who developed the mixed-terrain route (Craig) led. I saw three coyotes during

Was pretty fun, but the trails out of Port Costa and through Briones were severely rutted, making climbing difficult and descending even more unpleasant. Still super happy to mix it up a bit, but I'm not hurrying back out there and I ultimately wound up bailing about 2/3 the way through. dstein

I wore a light short sleeve jersey, a light long sleeve jersey over that, and brought a windbreaker. The windbreaker lived in a jersey pocket all day. The longsleeve jersey came off and got stuffed into the handlebar bag at mile 35 or so. Doug's sweatsoaked wool longsleeve baselayer went into MY

Hi Tony and William - To each his own. If this ride had not been supported - I would likely have been happy with my load. But I was plenty warm in shorts and a thin t-shirt at Island (at 7am). It was all I could do to get myself to drink between rest stops. And you have every right to be proud o

I agree with Tony. I'd much rather carry a little too much over not quite enough. I got a couple comments from the crabon crowd at the size of my handlebar bag. One guy on a climb asked if I had any beer in there. It's true you don't need to carry much in the way of food at the GPC, but those l
