Not 100% positive, but I think Specialized MTBs of that era were produced by Giant Bicycles. "MY" is probably a date code of some sort. On Jan 3, 5:53 am, EricP wrote: > Wouldn't be surprised.  My recently acquired Rockhopper ca. 1990 has > an "MY" serial number.  Which might be Maxway. > -J

I tend to agree with z-man on this one. An Atlantis sized down would make a great mountain bike. Or at least I think it would. I don't own one but based on clearance, other riders raves and its clearance it sure seems like it would make a solid and capable off road machine. What is nice about the

Wouldn't be surprised. My recently acquired Rockhopper ca. 1990 has an "MY" serial number. Which might be Maxway. With the 700C Hillborne you could easily put the Schwalbe Marathon Cross tires on with fenders. Have that setup on a Surly Cross Check and it can easily ride off road. Not through

Thinking of cross bikes used in mountain areas, is Kirk Pacenti still planning to do a mini-knobby 650b tire? Would this be an option for 650b cyclocross-ish setups on canti/v brake dedicated frames that don't allow for clearance of larger tires? I thought the Bombadil had plenty of room for la

Like Jim, I ride my CX-setup bikes anywhere I ride mountain bikes*. Also like Jim, I'll often take different lines with a 58mm knobby than I do with a 35mm CX tire, but I get through it all the same. And this is in Chico, which is at the base of Mt. Lassen, which is the first volcano in the Casca

The bike (Riv) that will do all you're asking would be the Atlantis. Plenty of tire clearance, 29er/26er depending on frame size. I'd like to be able to set one up w/ a 26 rear, 29 front, w/ drop bars, regular canti's etc-that would be fun. Really more of the 80's style mtn bike than the Bombadil
