something, they are so cheery and helpful, they erase a weeks worth of

Mace is illegal, wasp spray is not. When I used to ride in rural upstate NY
there were sometimes dangerous situations with drivers. I never had to use
it on a person but have brandished the big black can that changed some
drunk drivers mind about "kicking my ass."

You do realize the Geneva Convention prohibits use of chemical weapons (on

It also may offer leverage in preventing a potential road-rage incident

The handle and whatnot are orange, bit barcode, it just made me think of
Home Depot brand ones. I still have the hatchet my grandfather used in
WWII, back when the idea of having something made high quality was the
norm, not the exception.

You would be wrong. I work in a community garden, we have Bahco tools. They
are good. We like them a lot. Considerably better than the Chinese crap at
Home Depot.
You would be wise to get the VO model. You get utility and longevity.
The Riv hatchet lineup is precious. You pay for exclusivity.
I think a lot of what VO does is based on the Riv model, but lower prices
and less transparent connection to the manufactures.

Something about the VO one makes it look like a Home Depot house brand. I
agree they all seem a bit frivolous to most but they could really come in
handy if you do go camping a lot. I always try to buy good stuff once than
crappy stuff over and over again and feel this product would fall into that
All of the responses focus on the fact that Riv Bike is selling them, but
what prompted me to post was the fact that VO has joined the bandwagon and
has them on their site too!

Of course, "S24O" might explain why I don't get it as a cycling tool. I've
never bike camped, and the image I get of such an endeavor is me in the
woods with a smartphone, scrolling through Twitter and hoping the scary
animals don't get me. For a cyclist, I'm not very outdoorsy :)

IMO it's more a Grant "neat thing made in a little shop in Sweden"
