For a size medium: Long arms, short tail (won't stay tucked, and was designed
that way), pretty big in the body, fairly broad radius on the collar points
(peter-pan-ish), red button thread.
I wear a 15 1/2 X 34 dress
I was lucky to get an as-new one in a perfect fit for sale used at a very,
very low price and it is one of my favorite winter cycling garments -- an
ideal 2nd layer for 40F or below.

When you amortize the price difference (Bean v. Riv) over 15 years you'll have
to give up maybe one cup of Starbux Frou Frou per year. I can easily live with
such a sacrifice to get a better shirt.

Well the current price on the LLBean is $50 so we should at least be fair
and say that the Riv shirt is only 1.88x the bill. :-P
For me, the pencil slot in the pocket and the red thread of the buttons
more than make up for the difference to me, but I don't have a longstanding
relationship

Great point Bill, I'm stuck with the price I paid for the Bean shirt about 15
years ago and they've definitely gone up! (They also replaced it 3 years ago
due to a button tearing out and taking some fabric with it)
That red thread is pretty sweet looking, I'm wondering if there is a difference
I love the Riv (but don't have the Bean to compare). The fabric feels nice,
and it does feel rugged. Word of caution on the buttons-- a few (3 or 4...
maybe 5?) on my chambray and cowpoke have fallen off. I've got 'em in my
drawer waiting for a time to re-stitch 'em. I do like the red thread,
I have both. The Bean is nice and what I think of as chamois. The Riv is
far more rugged and feels like it would ward off errant chain saws (that's
a compliment, just to clarify). The Riv is warmer, and the color is great,
too. I expect the Riv will outlast the Bean by a significant factor.
They had just come in last time I was in the shop. They were still trying
to figure out what to price them at. As a person who grew up in
northeastern Ohio in LL Bean chamois, these were MUCH nicer. I thought
they felt thicker and softer. I agreed with Bill that the pocket design

The Riv moleskin shirt is outstanding. I have USA made older chamois shirts
from cabela woolrich that I love but there's not much comparison between
their fabric and the Riv fabric. The moleskin is a very tight dense weave that
is noticeably wind resistant . It's been a real addition to my
