The instruction sheet in the B17 I just bought says not to proofide the
upper side of an Aged saddle. I assume the Organic saddles are oak tanned
and certainly not "aged." They mean the pre-aged saddles I guess?

On my last Brooks saddle instructions, the message was to only oil the
bottom IF not using fenders. Otherwise, just do the top.

I think it's possible to use Proofide too often - there are some posts on
the Brooks England website that attest to that. I better like Obenauf's
that Riv sells. It can go on real thin and is a better wax.

HA! At my age (51) and with the kind of mileage I do lately (not much), I
would never live to see the day it got soft enough to be considered
rideable. ;-)

My B-17 special is about 15 years old and is still in great shape. When I
got it, I spread Sno-seal top and bottom and took a hair dryer to it for a
few minutes. I rubbed the melted snow seal in until my hand cramped. I did
that three times. After months of riding I was getting a little frustrat
I'm more confused now than before I started this topic. What I usually do
is coat the bottom and leave it; coat the top, let sit overnight, polish
off, then pretty much ignore Proofiding again unless it becomes painfully
obvious it needs it. I guess I'll stick with that.

After having read way too many posts, on various forums, about Brooks
saddle care, I think the consensus is this: Whether you use Proofide or
Obenauf's or neutral Kiwi shoe polish or some other treatment, use it
sparingly and not too frequently. How much is "sparingly"? I like Grant's

There is no consistent frequency for leather treatment, since the condition
of the leather depends on so many variables. The foremost consideration
is probably how often you ride your bike, but also whether your bike spends
a lot of time outdoors, climate, etc. I think the best policy is t
maybe to extend joes question, when should you use proofide, I have a 10 year

them. I do get caught in the rain every now and then. Should I. E doing it on a

I only use Proofide, and have never heard any bad testimonials about
Proofide. I don't believe the folks at Brooks would make an inferior
product to protect their saddles.

Top and bottom of my B-17 Select got a coat of Proofide. Why would you not?

Yo
I've been proofiding mine since I got it last month. It's starting to take
on a nice amber tone. As to whether one "should", I don't have an
answer..
