on a recent project I used, both silver/brass ferrules
silver cables for shifters
black cables for brakes.
seems to make sense.

I don't really care what color the ferrules are - although the brass is
nice - but for 99% of my builds I prefer grey housing. Grey disappears into
the background and doesn't draw attention to itself.

I have no problem mixing gray and black. My daughter's bike has the
Yokozuna shifter cables in gray and Shimano brake cables in black (again,
because the Yokozuna were too stiff for the short bends on the
interrupters.)

I just got the Yokozuna kits for my Bleriot.
I did the brakes today. Shifters later.

My Atlantis and San Marcos have gray housing, but the Mt Hood, Noventa, and
LHT have black because that is all that is available at the local bike
shops. When I was changing the stem and shifter location (thumby to bar
end) on the Atlantis, I ended up purchasing the Yokozuna kit from Rivendell
to me, black cable housings are the last straw - only go to it when nothing
else will work. Gray, white red, and I wish had seen the brass ferrules
earlier in the year, but they made it to my wish list.

Different and classy! Can't imagine this not working on any color of bike,

Both bikes, Bombadil bike, Bromton bike, be black (alliteration
intentional).
The color is always in stock for touch-up paint, even though it's a shade,
not a color.
Both have silver SKS fenders, though. And silver cranks and racks.
Both have olive green Carradice bags. Brown Brooks CS
I usually use black, because that is the color most easily found when you
buy housing by the foot. I'd prefer grey with some colors -- was going to
use grey (gray, graie, greh, gre', what have you) on the Ram but the
provider of the grey provided derailleur cable and not brake housing, so it

the only time I used black was when I had to buy Shimano housing by the
foot - it's the only housing flexible enough to work with the interrupter
brake setup on my daughter's bike

I generally buy gray housing, but I do use black housing that comes with
new levers or whatever. I pretty much use what I have on hand if I have a
suitable length. A little mis-matched housing never hurt anyone.

I see Jagwire even makes reflective housing now. What a great idea.:

Andy beat me to the punch. If I had to choose, I'd probably go with gray,
but I mix and match as I feel and also based on what I have lying around.
Right now I have both black and gray on the Sam H.

Noticed that Riv builds have gray housing with brass ferrules. Was
wondering why they use that combo.

Silver housing for me :)
I've always loved the silver stuff, whether it's Jagwire flat silver, or I
see now they have Sterling silver, which looks awesome !

I have the flat silver on one bike but really like the braided looks they
have been coming out with. I have the braided gold on my MB2 and braided
carbon silver on my Bombadil.

there's grey and then there's grey. there is a classy dark grey, like dura ace

box. flat pale grey can be nice, and that was one of the

My first Bridgestone - an XO-3 in 1994 - came with gray, and that's been
the way housing is supposed to look to me ever since. No particular
preference for ferrules. They's shiny and that's good :)
