How about starting with Deacon Patricks method "it'll dry and flake off"
and then vacuum it with vacuum with upholstery attachment?

I never bothered to attempt a cleaning, but I did once try to clean an

1. see what water and a cloth/sponge does. Lots of water if needed. Hose
and scrub.
2. add a small amount of mild soap if that seems needed, but this may
diminish the wax in the canvas.
3. bow to beusage.
