I always cut my own spacers from aluminum tubing. I don't use the
wine-cork thing because you can't tighten it without exploding the wine
cork. So, since you can't tighten it, you have to use a locknut. If you
are going to use a locknut, on one end, you might as well use lock nuts on

Sometimes the space is too big for easily obtained nylon spacers, as happened
with my Mystery Bike (the first run of Riv longbikes). That's when a cork
solution becomes more attractive.
