It works for me on a Win7 box at work when I set R_HOME. Why the other methods (building from source; the new check against the registry) do not work I do not understand. I asked on this list for pre-release testers, nobody offered any help. If you (or anybody else) wants it to work "better" on Windows, you should step up and pitch in some testing. But as I said: it __works__ on Windows or else I would not have released.
