Hello fellow tankers! Here's the first video of my work on the FOA 1/6 M4A3 (105) Sherman. It is the Dragon kit, with steel inserts, including a fully functional suspension that works like in the original tank.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnvC2iiIIhg I still have some issues with the tracks. I'm using some plastic duckbills from the kit, but I'm adding chain-link-plates on each duckbills to make this part very strong. Also, I'm offering two types of track pads. Those on the video are very nice reproduction of the chevron types, but I will offer a FLAT pad to make better turns in rough environments. I also have issues with the TTTMS. Since the hull width is exactly 10", there is no much room for working on the chains and tying the motor bolts. I'm changing the design of the TTMS Low Profile to allow the motors to be staggered. As for combat, I think it might be a low cost/great looking option but maybe somewhat-unreliable due to its inability to do DONUTS in grass. This tank can turn in grass, but I doubt it could do donuts like the Tiger or all your "homemade tanks". NOTE 1: I used the same hard rubber Smooth On product that Frank suggested on this Newsgroup. They work fantastic! I add 4-8 hours in the oven at 150F to fully cure the rubber. Reynolds told me that if you let the rubber sit, it would take two weeks to fully cure. NOTE 2: I'm going to do some failure tests on a MTS servohydraulic system with digital controller at the University of Utah. It will tell us very fast why the Tiger tracks do so well, but not the ABS Panther tracks. We have new PP Panther tracks, and now studying the hard rubber Sherman and Abrams track pads. So let's come back to the remarks of Paul: (1) Reliability of the tank when operated under battle conditions - I would give it a rating of 4/10 because no donuts in grass, but still has good speed - 4 mph (2) Accuracy in firing paint at the adversary - I would give it a rating of 9/10 because the TTRS is fast, 5 rpm, and the TTES is fine tuned (3) Efficiency in reincarnation - I would give it the rating of 9/10 because we access the turret or the hull in seconds as can be seen in the video Cheers from cold Utah, Loic -- -- You are currently subscribed to the "R/C Tank Combat" group.
