Would the motor or nut need a pivot? I can picture the meshing angle changing
as the gun angle changes.

Just design it like a tie rod end. That way the motor doesn't have to pivot.

if the printed nut were to fit and work properly i'd consider casting some. as
to their life, i'd think that with proper greasing it should last for a long
time as it's not like there's a lot of weight bearing down on it

i don't think the printer at the local shop won't have an issue with threads -
though i could always mold and one of the nuts that come with it

Acme is a standard profile. You'd have trouble with the resolution for the
threads, but it'd be easier with an acme than a v thread. Acme are better for
strength, so it probably would wear well.
Most of the acme threads I cut were a lot bigger than that. Acme thread inserts
aren't that common
I could make you a drawing if you gave me the thread pitch and desired
profile. I doubt it would last very long though

I have two of these motors I purchased a while ago. They have a 7/16 ACME
thread which is very hard to find nuts for. If you get some, order them from
Surplus Center. Theirs at least come with one nut.

I have a place near me that sells those too. I was thinking sort of the same.
My working in slow progress tank is an AMX13 so it would have to move the top
of the articulated turret.

CAR SEAT 12VDC GEAR MOTOR i see it says non-standard thread - i'm wondering
if it's metric. thought it might make for a nice gun elevation motor if
something could be found to mate with that thread.
