Great explanation, George.

If you want to maintain track tension through the range of suspension travel,
throw the alignment off enough to ³de-rail² the track.

The Su100 has been running suspension without a tensioner . It uses 2060 chain
. I can remove the chain by removing the road wheels. Which gives enough slack
to pull the chain over the idler wheel.

Yes, they do and that's where you break the track. Problem is that you have
to remove
the track pad from the attachment part in order to seperate the link. One
side of the pad
is connected to one attachment wing and the other side of the pad is
connected to the other
attachment wing.

i'm using sprocket on both wheels as well just for that reason.
they don't make connecter links for the 2060?

I would say it would be feasible with the 2060 attachment chain tracks, but
not practical.
Without a tensioner, you would have to cut rivits and break track every time
you wanted
to remove the track from your tank. The 2060 chain is very stiff side to
side and is very
hard to de-rail from the spro

It's feasible, it's just more difficult. You will have to set up the
suspension so that it takes up all the slack in your track; basically,
the suspension is the tensioner. Maintaining tension while the
suspension actuates will be your biggest problem.
