The -r (aka --restore-as-of) option requires a time. eg, "-r now" As the error message says, please read the rdiff-backup manual: http://www.nongnu.org/rdiff-backup/rdiff-backup.1.html Important sections for your problem include the section on Restoring and the section on Time Formats. And
