Looking at Bob-O's original response his peeve was different than his
concern about proper cable use and I share his peeve because a customer
looking to get information from a solar business is going to a consider a

Do robotic welding machines answer welding cable questions politely because

It is possible to get UL listed "welding" cable, though it costs quite a bit
more than standard welding cable. It is the same type used in the robotic
welding machines and similar applications.
Although Bob-o might have come across a bit angry, I have to agree with his
opinion on the codes for

Me too.
That being said, since there was a question in the first place, I am glad
the question was asked before a "code crime" was committed. It is apparent
to me that Jeff B was
As one who has asked his fair share of dumb questions in the past, I
recommend that we all be as polite and humble as possible. This does not
mean that a touch of humor is out of place, nor self-deprecation nor irony.

Great info, Burt.
The Greaves ³Shoo-pin² is another product that crimps to the end of highly
stranded cable, like the Cobra X-flex, resulting in a terminal that is
suitable for landing on lugs like those in the Sunny Island that are not
listed for use with fine stranded cables. Here is a link:

Hi Jeff,
Mr. Wiles strongly suggests that welding cable not be used for battery
connections. You can read up on his guidance here:

Something the NEC is clear about is conductors be used that are listed for
that purpose. Weldin
It seems to me that this list is a great resource, for uber-experienced &

I would think the last thing we would want to do is discourage any person
qualified to be on this list from soliciting advice from the knowledge on

The wrenches list is also available as a searchable archive, where this subject
has been previously discussed / debated at length. Rather than chastising Bob-O,
you might thank him for bringing this to your attention and also to the
attention of anyone else reading the list, public or pro.

Geoff, I'd like to know a little more about your project, I may have a solution
on the turbine side that we've used you could sell them and couple it with the

Wrenches,
They are requiring us to install two service disco's. One for the PV (between
the PV and the FIT (payment) meter) and one for the house (between the
distribution panel and the standard utility (billing) meter). As Darryl stated,
the reason is so that they are grouped together. They s
Undoubtably many of us are getting interesting project requests as folks want
to sprinkle magic stimulus dust on things to make solar panels grow...
We have a project with a huge electrical load, pumping water for a medium sized
city . They want solar... great. Easy.

Jeff,
This is a pet peeve of mine. Welding cable is designed to live it's
whole life surrounded by hot sparks and dragged across cement floors,
yet it is not "listed" for use in a home. That pretty much means that
the manufacturer hasn't spent the dough to do the UL testing. Most of

Hi wrenches,
I have been looking through the codebook for guidance in selecting battery
cables for a large UPS system. The code doesn't appear to have much to say
about the actual type of wire used. My electrical supplier is suggesting
welding cable, but I feel like I read somewhere that welding
