RE: 2% loss over 25 years is significant
Amen. Sorta makes one wonder how they've allowed and accepted <50% efficient
combustion-cycle turbine plants all these years... That's before taking
transmission losses of minimum 8%. 24/7 x 365.

Hi Peter,
I agree with you on the XW. I'm amazed that there is no integrated
battery capacity meter, plus plenty of other issues I find pretty
amazing given they used to make the premier inverter and in many ways
I have to say the old SW hasn't really be beaten.
Also I still find the old S
2% loss from any resistance source over 25 years is significant.

Yes, that is what the code book and my electricians handbook say
I would like to start a thread on AC-coupled grid tied battery backup
systems. We do a fair number of GTBBSs (four to five a year) and I have
gravitated from the Outback solution to the Xantrex XW solution. I am not
happy with the XW product and especially not happy with Xantrex's post sales

Hi Jeff
It is a major problem that it is hard to get the small bits, i don't
know why they ( the big they) don't have spares we can buy. Like for
all the small many different screws, nuts, washers and even the cover
plates someone steps on.
We know its not a custom item, but finding it a

I have a spare. They are not kept in the socket but are loose in a
bag. Send me your mailing address off list. I leave tomorrow for a week,
so I hope I see your address before I go.

Just completed a large residential grid/gen/solar/battery system using a XW6048

We are using a SunnyBoy inverter at the array and doing an AC coupled backfeed.
To do this we have installed a heavy duty relay in the output of the SunnyBoy,
and are using the aux. relay contacts on the

All three modules went to a technical
I have seen modules with a sheet of Plexiglas or Lexan (expensive) over the
top. If you seal it with something like 'LEXAR" it might hold. That sealant
skins over but does not get solid.
I think you could heat and bend plexiglas to fit over the sides of the
panels to keep the weather out but i have
A clear acryllic polymer can be purchased at a hobby store (i.e. one that
sells model airplane stuff) that is cheap and readily sprayed on the
surface. It will extend a broken module's life for some time, and as Ron
pointed out, they make for good gifts to schools and science clubs.

Oa
Nick,
Where did you put the relay? I had problems breaking the AC out of
Sunny Boy inverters.
Thanks,

I haven't posted here in ages, and I hope I am cutting out the
