Your replies are greatly appreciated. On the testing, there were no loads
on the inverter, and I reduced the battery charging amperage to 5 amps. I
went to do more testing, but the generator wouldn't start. In my limited
experience with the Honda EU series, these are usually easy starting

Those early models had to be physically removed from the wall to get the
cover off, so a chipset replacement was difficult. Then Series II came out

Drake I think the cause of your problems are NOT the generator but our, as
installers a lack of accurate information.
I believe I would hope that someone at OB will chime in here is
A GFVX inverter( operative word here is Grid tied) will work w/ a generator
NOT in that way you are trying to
Allan,
Yes, probably. However
IF your very early inverter has a serial # 50 or so, there was a
board issue and it will not stack unless that board was changed out.
They got most of them but not all. :)

There is also the option of converting the genny's AC output to DC and running
it through an MX60 as a rather rube goldberg way to interface a genny with a
GFX inverter. I did this at home and it works great.

FWIW, I have synced a 4048 with a 5548. It seemed to work fine up until
the customer refused to pay me and then I lost interest!

Drake,
I have had great luck just using an Iota battery charger with the Honda
Generators. Just pick a charger with an amp rating suitable for the
continuous output rating of the generator. My standard grid time with backup
system uses the Honda 2000i with an Iota charger. The nice
Drake,
I forgot to mention that I have had no luck getting a GVFX to lock onto
a generator.
