At the risk of stirring the hornets nest, I disagree with NABCEP's stance of this issue. I think for their own survival and best interest they need to specialize. Battery based and batteryless are really different critters. And that the present and future of the industry is hugely weighted to

[RE-wrenches] Nabcep - grid tie---Off grid

Just got to weigh in on this one. It cracks me up to see the grid tie generation's attempts at off grid design. It is such an experiential design mode. It can be conceptually taught in a class. But it has to be lived to really be made whole. The finer OG designers I know have almost all lived off

Jay I also agree that the training/position on this subject matter should be two separate certifications. Let me give some examples: Last year in Hawaii, we have reported approximately 11mW's of PV that went in. In speaking to the utility folks, less than 1% had any batteries associated with

I have to agree. We have done off-grid for 30+ years, so it was a very simple transition for us to also do on-grid because the system design and configurations are much simpler. Over the past few years we have seen more mistakes by those that are only grid-tie familiar or certified when

Wrenches- How are folks wiring the Soladeck boxes? It seems that the intent is to use cord grips in the south end of the box, but I just saw another installation where the wires just came directly in through the space at the south end. Seems like the foam is included to keep bugs out rather

I drill where the dimples are in the sheet metal, then punch for .5 trade size, then install one of the plastic two hole strain relief clamps as are available from AEEsolar and others. I feel that one must not rely on the foam lid gasket to sufficiently clamp the power leads. That just seems like

Hi Allan The XW Aux output (available on the inverter and the charge controller) can drive a 12V fan for venting purposes. There are internal logic settings you can adjust to turn this on for various conditions. Cheers, Mark

The 2-hole strain relief is called a cable gland. TB makes a line that includes 2-hole, 3-hole, 4-hole etc. The part numbers all begin with CC-NPT-*. The 2-hole gland is CC-NPT-12-G-2. You can find the complete selection on the last page of this PDF:

Dave, As you've seen on our installs we always use one or more strain reliefs in the south end of the box. Including for the grounding conductor. We use the nylon ones from Sealcon. There is no way that the foam block and lid provide adequate strain relief.
