I have a couple of projects coming up, which will require additional work to
prevent connecting to a Generac Guardian's ATS panels. Do the same concerns
still exist regarding back-feeding an inverter to a generator panel? Can the
inverter damage the generator? I know this was the cases, at
Hi Nick,
The usual answer is this is a bad idea for the generator.
The only exceptions I know of are if the solar is a small percentage of the
generator size, then its probably OK on the generator.

If it fits I like the ,1,2,3, approach, I have only used Outback for this, and
it is for Bimodal systems. 1 is the grid, if it fails, 2 the outback picks up
the priority loads, When the batteries voltage collapses the generator starts
and the ATS picks up the priority laods. This is
Jay,
If you already have the MC tool, then the Tyco specific tool from Tyco may
be the most cost effective. We just finished a larger commercial install
where we used one and it was simple and effective. IIRC it was ~$220 from
our distributor.

Sunny Boy/Sunny Island will accomplish this.
You can also do it w/Outback up to 10.8kW

Jeff,
That was my first choice, but I was told by Outback that they do not offer
a 120/208 inverter(s). I have not set up a three phase system yet, so bare
with me please. I was going to contact SMA next.

Speaking of MC tools, where is the best place to buy one? Does it
need to cost $400+?
Thanks,

We have bought a few recently, but be careful - there has been some
manufacturing shortage (according to Multi-Contact) and all have been
shipped with crimping dies for the MC-3 connector and not the MC-4s that we
bought them for...
Of course the dies we are told are not sold separately...
I do not know what is going on at Outback, but unless they reduced the product
offering, they have the capability. I have such a system.
Use 3 of their 120 volt single phase inverters connected 3-phase WYE (120/208)
3 phase. Each inverter is only a single phase, and you connect each
Hi Wrenches,
I was wondering if any of you have worked with the Apollo TSW inverter. It
looks a lot like a Xantrex DR. I am wondering how good it is.

Thanks Darryl,
Allen, would you have to use 3 Sunny Islands? one for each phase?
The Utility wants a single inverter.

Yes you would. I don't believe there is a single inverter that meets
the utility's wishes.
Hi August,
I wrote a not-too-technical description of anti-islanding for the Ask the
Experts section of Home Power a while back. You can find it online at:

Ecotech Energy Systems,
Nick I have one on Beta test, I have not worked it very hard as yet, I have had
it about a year. NO problems.

Hi,
Does the utility mean by match that they don't want the inverter output
transformed in any way?
Could you not just use one 120V inverter? I've connected single 120 volt
inverters (albeit not outback but I don't see why not) to a 120/208 wye without
problems. You have to make sure the wires

My recommendation is to learn how to install without using one. It can be
done. Splices add additional potential for failure.

Your observation is absolutely the truth. I was required to install a
disconnect when I put my system in. Every time I see a line crew in the
neighborhood I would stop them and ask if they new there was a grid-tie
system nearby. The answer was always that their plans did not indicate
