William,
Check to make sure what Input you have selected... go to
SETUP/FX/INPUT... Verify that you have the Ac Transfer control set to
Gen.
Make sure that you have adjusted the transfer delay cycles in the right
screen... ADV/FX/GEN under Transfer delay cycles... I would set this to

I am having the same problem with a newly installed 8.5RES with a

shutdown by setting the generator cool down to one minute. This
unloads the generator before the generator is shut down and
eliminates the

In my case, I tightened the voltage window to 110 lower, 125 upper

Transfer delay of 30 is too long with sensitive electronics. This
means that when the AC input drops to 110VAC the inverter waits 30
cycles before we disconnect from the genset.
If the Ac transfer control is set to Grid instead of GEN then you would
have to program these settings into the
Was gen bonding wire isolated when installed, when they come from the factory N

My Kohler rep won't sell me Kohlers anymore, factory will not Wtee any off

I will set the transfer delay to zero next site visit. I did just
confirm that the AC transfer control is set to GEN.

Does anyone know of a tool to remove pins from Multi-contact connectors?

Hello offgrid Wrenches,
I just inherited an off grid system with one VFX3524 inverter running the
home loads, and a 17kW Guardian Generac they use for charging (through an
X-240 back into the inverter) to run their Franklin 3hp 240 VAC well pump,
S. F. max amp 17.0 ( rated on its controller)
I've run a 3 Hp pump on a pair of Outback inverters, but it's not a done deal.
As the pumps age, they start getting stickier (read more start up current
needed to get them going) and wells often have silt which builds up in the pipe
and pump, adding to the start up surge.
I recently had a
We designed and installed a few off grid systems out west about 10 years ago and found all the wells there drill halfway to China. Since here in Virginia most wells hit quality water at 30 feet, we know there was no way the single SW4048 could handle a 2 or 3 HP pump. So we installed a 300 gallon
Well, this should start up a fire storm. I will not mention the county or state as we do work in many other areas, but today I stopped by a county building permit office to apply for a permit to install a grid-tie solar system that includes battery backup and generator, which we are adding to an

Good point made here. We too became concerned about lax enforcement some

My standard permit docs are comprehensive, but do not include documentation
regarding string sizing, thank goodness. A permit technician/ plan reviewer
should not be overseeing string sizing. You should be thankful that the permit

Rhetorical questions to follow:
If you do not provide string calculations, how do you verify that Voc will
not exceed NEC limits? How do you verify DC feeder ampacities? Does your
jurisdiction not verify such parameters? We know you have a handle on

Frankly, I hate to say how much I enjoyed the last inspector I was working

Chris,
We deal with deep wells routinely.
Recently we installed a GTWB system for a very enjoyable retired

Good points. One thing I'd like to mention out here in the 50th state- on the
residential side, they don't do any calcs. They count on the installer. The
electrical inspectors aren't privy either or aren't very interested. Even on
some of the commercial projects, small commercial, they
