Twenty years ago 100% of our installations were battery based, off grid. That is all there was, at least here in Maine. Nowadays, we are installing about 75% grid tie. Of that, about 25% use batteries in their system with a "critical loads" sub-panel. The remaining 25% of our clients are off gri

Hi Allan; I'm getting some of those same jobs, like y2K. Just like then, I'm not feeding peoples' fears, but alleviating them. I've played around with my own GTWB system that had only a 4kwh battery, and it can provide usable power indefinitely. It behaved basically like an off grid system with

Both cases started with new batteries: Trojan L16s. One was a 24 v system that tapped for 12 v lighting, the other was a 48 v system that charged with a 24 v Bergey added later. The problem seems to come up when you have more than one parallel string. I could see the Vanner working on a single s

The majority of our customers still prefer batteryless systems, as in most parts of the country. Battery-based grid-tied systems are less than 10% of our residential installations. But I find myself speaking with more people who inquire about GTWB systems out of a growin

On a different note, has anyone seen or done or figured out the wiring for a 2 or 3 stack radian system? Is there a central Xtransfer switch or anything like that, or just their single BOS box for below the inverter? I've got a project coming up that I need to figure out if I'm using an 2/3 st

The balancer did a good job on helping share the load, for example if I had a 30 amp load on the 12 volt leg of the 24 volt system the equalizer would supply perhaps 29.5 amps but the 12 volt battery would supply the rest, even though close, the 12 volt section does more work tahn the 12 to 24 v

One should also factor in the availability of generator fuel if an extended outage occurs. In some communities, the fuel will be scarce or non-existent, especially if significant damage occurs to fuel transporation and storage infrastructure. --- Original Message --- On 9/4/2011 01:
