[RE-wrenches] Relay for excess PV/ AC coupling

2013-03-06 Thread All Solar, Inc.
Wrenches, I have been searching here with little luck. I am in need of a relay. Ideally, 120vac coil with 600vdc rated contacts. I am trying to limit the input to a GT inverter an AC coupled sysetm. We need to drop off two strings to the inverter when the grid is down, thus limiting the

Jeremy What we have done here at MidNite at times is to use our SSR fed by a plug in Wal Wart plugged into the utility. Ryan From: re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org [mailto:re-wrenches-boun...@lists.re-wrenches.org] On Behalf Of All Solar, Inc. Sent: Wednesday, March 06, 2013

600 VDC rated contacts on a relay is going to be expensive. Extinguishing a DC arc at 600 volts needs a vacuum and/or rather substantial arc breakers. You didn't mention current... but I would ball park a relay like what you describe in the multiple hundreds of dollars. Perhaps changing the

There aren't many relays to choose from at 600 vots dc. Here's an Omron relay rated for 400 volts 20 amps dc: http://www.omron.com/ecb/products/dry/3/g9eb-1.html or 400 volts 60 amps dc: http://www.omron.com/ecb/products/dry/3/g9ea-1.html The coil isn't 120 volts. But a common wall wart power

How about this unit from Tyco that is rated 100 amps at 900 volts: http://www.te.com/catalog/pn/en/9-1618389-8?RQPN=LEV100A5ANG and only $110 at Mouser http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/TE-Connectivity/LEV100A5ANG/?qs=%2fha2pyFadug1f8yBSHppXCbQVN7JiNYp4qGSI0ewLzHnRcQBcz6gcA%3d%3d. Kent

I'm not sure if these would be suitable but I just sold some old stock 500Vdc @ 7 amp solid state relays made by Crydom. http://www.ebay.com/itm/310563859866?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649 Perhaps check with them: http://www.crydom.com/en/ContactUs/Support.shtml Larry

I just wanted to follow up on one thing about the kohler DC gensets. I talked to my genny buddy about the Kohler and he said: The voltages are adjustable. On the 24v unit, from 24 to 33v. It also tapers the current down to around 40 amps, from a peak of 222. thanks, jay peltz power

For a full charge the best bet would be a 3 stage charging system. That would be for everyday use. A considerably less complicated controller than the xantrex incharge would be really nice. I never could make one of those function correctly over about 5 years of playing with it. Otherwise a good

I never recommend trying to fully charge with a generator anyway: its too fuel inefficient. A good 4 hour bulk charge from 50% back to 80% SOC, and then hope the sun shines again. I usually set the voltage on the high side (they usually run the it in the winter), and program the run time to
