Mac, my advice, just to be sure, check the refractometer against a float hydrometer on real battery acid from your home system, not just the the distilled water zero mark. Dan Fink Buckville Energy Otherpower NABCEP / IREC / ISPQ accredited Continuing Education Providers 970.672.4342 On Tue, A

Mac, In my experience, cells that read 1.0 rarely if ever recover to a usable state. I've also seen abnormally high SG readdings (1.31+) in battery banks that are over charged, which may be the case here. You stated the set points for absorb and equalize, but was this just for the VFX or for the

Thanks for the responses everyone. I never considered that acid may have been added. I'll have to press him a little bit on that. He's definitely "old school" so I wouldn't be surprised if he tried this. Dan, I calibrated the refractometer, so I have confidence in its readings. When I say all

I would stop there and see if it is corrected. I have seen high SG when there is little or no boil offand water is not added, if someone has added acid the SG is not usable. You can use the entire system as it is a load tester turn off the pv, gen set and the wind put a 2 k load (ac) on the system

Mac, Sounds to me that “someone” (ahem…) added some sulfuric acid to the cells instead of plain distilled water. Either that or there is some sort of contamination in there that is raising the density or “weight” of the fluid beyond just what the proper amount of acid would do. “Specific grav

I generally use specific gravity as a way to measure the differences between individual cells, batteries and strings, not relying on the exact reading, to get an idea if there are problems (usually connections) in part of the battery bank. You also said SG readings were all over the place. I'd fir
