I am working with a customer who is doing a complete remodel, and upgrading to
PV and Smart Energy Storage. The house was broken down to floor joists, open
studded walls and open roof rafters.
The client wanted a 8 kW/16 kWh Smart Energy Storage system and a 10 kW-ac PV
system. The Main
HI Ash,
You don’t give a lot of data to the system, tilt, orientation, probably its 12
in series ( probably?), location, or room available for added modules, how
difficult to add new wires or are the wires off the roof large enough to handle
another string of modules, does the inverter have
Hi Ash,
Long time no see.
I would consider replacing the entire array. The new high wattage,
low cost modules would allow you to match the existing inverter's
voltage with new modules at a surprisingly reasonable price. The
customer may be amazed at how cheap they are, especially since he
Solmetric has some good screen shots of what happens when you combine these
modules. My students just did a lab of combining modules (210W and 175W) in
series and parallel and testing the PVA 600. In series V add and current drags
way down to the lowest I value in the series string. The IV
Whoops, meant for another; posted here by mistake.

I hate to say in public but l have paired up modules stacked simular to
what you want to do, what l have seen is IMP slightly less but still way
better then seperate so give it a try. I have done it for the same reason
you are looking at.

Ok, does that mean I should dial, oh, two of the ten digits of your number?

Dan; rough-and-tumble world indeed here off the grid! My understanding is
that Voc will still be additive, minus degradation over the years, but that
the larger Pmax modules will be current limited for Imp by the smaller
ones. So your 245w modules could only do 100w in the scenario you give.
