Even the industrial Generac ATS's use plastic gears now. They're awful and parts like the gears, CPU's and sensors have been unobtanium. My preference has been Eaton first and then Asco. On Fri, Sep 20, 2024 at 3:24 PM Dana Orzel via RE-wrenches < re-wrenches@lists.re-wrenches.org> wrote: > We ra

We ran to an install by others that had a Radian 8048 for backup tied to a Generac auto transfer switch & the 12vdc from the Radian was the 12volt power source the Generac control card had died & we had to buy another Generac ATS & gut it to get another controller, they would not sell just the c

I'm gonna add that the ASCO is the way to go. They offer both normal ATS and with a service entrance rated breaker. I have dozens out there on GTBB systems. What I really like about them is you can adjust a pot so that there is little to no time delay in which the home switches over to battery. Unl

We used to work with / recommend ASCO, but no longer. We had a site with dual ASC8000’s 400A 3 phase units switching between Gen 1 and Gen 2. Control board sensor problems arose and it failed to auto transfer back from Gen 2-1 due to sensor issues. Had to get client to open cabinet and affect a

Nice. I’ve considered using a little jump battery once or twice but still haven’t had to. I put on my calendar ~3 years replace all gen-start FLA batteries because the consequences of them going dead are pretty bad. Curious if you guys think 3 years is a good rule of thumb. __

I recently set up a Generac ATS to transfer to an existing Magnum off grid system.  Grid was added to the house later.  I ended up putting a 7ah 12 v battery, 120 vac outlet, and 1 A charger inside the enclosure to power the ATS. Gird sense was connected right to the grid input terminals in the

I have had good experience with Kohler transfer switches but only the simpler RDT models should be used in conjunction with a complex custom system. (Kohler’s cheaper RXT models require a keep-alive signal from a Kohler generator) ___ List sponsored

I have a system with Generac ATS where Grid is Primary source, SolArk Critical Load is secondary source. And whole home is the Load out of the ATS. Generator feeds in to the SolArk Gen terminals. KOHLER generator (2-wire auto start) engages only when the SolArk tells it to, programmed by me a

Wrenches, If you are looking for a very good ATS, you need to look at ASCO that's what they do, from small less than 100 amp to high voltage multi 1000 amp units, they are a simple 2 wire start, l also use the Kohler products with no issues, l have AC Coupled off grid, DC Coupled on grid Fun times

Wrenches, We are primarily a grid-tied solar EPC but like many solar companies have a long history with small off-grid installations. In the past few years we have been tackling a handful of large, complex, grid-tied battery-backup systems (sub 90 kwh) range with some working flawlessly and some
