One of my favorite marriages is a solar ready (preheat) tankless and a
ProgressivTube SHW collector. With this combo you get batch type collector that
is storing the heated water, a 10 yr. PL warranty, and no pumps, sensors or
controls on the SDHW side. I double insulate the supply and return
more heat.
Class out. Enjoy the weekend.

In our area of so cal, gas water heaters with SWH last as long as fifteen
years no problem, and 20+ years is not uncommon - w/o anode rode redo. But the
ODWHs with which I am familiar usually need de-liming
configurations.

The payback on a demand heater in energy savings is like 50+ years. A
traditional tank heater, super insulated has very little loss

My tank is 20 years old now. I change the anode every 3 years.

Bill and Peter,
I stand corrected. Tankless units do not modulate to zero. What a shame.

My compliments on your simplistic approach to coordinate the solar storage

I know this was not the question, but this whole thread is predicated on the

work with the standard design, but if they want to install a On Demand, I am

Peter,
With all due respect, if you are only doing one SDHW system a year you might
want to consider hiring (subcontracting) someone who does keep up with at
least current technology and preferably state
We have a SDHW client that wants to replace his old water heater with a new
tankless water heater. We do a SDHW system about once a year, and only for
clients that are getting a PV system from us to begin with. So this is not a
big business line for us and we are behind the curve in terms of
