BASIC EASTER CANDY RECIPE

2 1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. white Karo syrup
1/2 c. water
3 egg whites
flavorings, see variations*
   Cook sugar, syrup, and water until it forms hard string
from spoon. Beat egg whites until very stiff. Fold into
cooked mixture. Let set until firm and cool. Dust hands with
confectioners sugar and shape mixture to form eggs or balls.
Use toothpick to dip each one into melted prepared chocolate.
*Variations: Peppermint; add peppermint flavoring.
Coconut; add coconut to mixture.
Fruit and nut; add chopped maraschino cherries,
