Black+White+Pink Corroboree 2000 in the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
Parade

There are three TV networks covering the Parade (Channel 10 - 8:30pm Sunday;
Optus and Foxtel pay per view - 3 hours live, starting at 7:30pm; Netcast -
go to the Mardi Gras site http://www.mardigras.com.au/ - live, starting at
7:30pm

It's getting close, only four more sleeps. It all happens on Saturday 4th
March.

Position, position, position, it's all about position, sweetie!

B+W+P Corroboree 2000 will be the third float in the Parade (not counting
the Mardi Gras lead float). First comes the Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander Gay, Lesbian and Transgender/Sistergirl Community Float 'Our
Country Our Queen', followed by the Hunter Valley Koori Community Float,
then our group. You can't ask better than that.

The positioning really shows what importance the Mardi Gras committee places
on indigenous issues and reconciliation.

Just for your information there are 208 floats and 7,200+ participants in
the Parade (quite a change from my first one in 1979, where a few hundred of
us marched in front of a crowd of 800, but at least the police left us alone
that year).

Black+White+Pink welcomes the National Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation
and Australians for Reconciliation in their first ever Sydney Gay and
Lesbian Mardi Gras, and thank them for their support of the Black+White+Pink
Float

We will be a very large walking group being led up the parade route by
Elders from the Sydney Inner City community. We hope that our very large
numbers will send the message that reconciliation is a people's movement,
despite the reluctance of the people who should be showing leadership. (and
we all know how worried the PM is of 'sending messages')

About 450 people of all backgrounds, sexualities and gender identities have
registered to parade with us on the night.

We will be carrying decorated, glittered hands, long strips of fabric in the
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands colours, large black, white and pink
hands, banners from the National Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation,
another one from Australians for Reconciliation as well as ATSI flags and
black white and pink helium filled balloons.

The National Council's banner says: "Corroboree 2000 - walk the bridge for
reconciliation on May 28" AND "The Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation
thanks the lesbian and gay community for its support of reconciliation"

The Australians for Reconciliation's states:"Australians for Reconciliation
support the Indigenous gay, lesbian and sistagirl communities"

B+W+P is proud that the gay, lesbian and transgender commitment to
reconciliation has been recognised at national level.

Never before has so much glitter, tasteless glamour, bad make-up and
politics been assembled in the same place at the same time.

Its not too late to join us. Be at the Archibald Fountain at the northern
end of Hyde Park (near Macquarie Street) at 5:30pm, we are moving into the
start area at 6:15.
