You can't reference any list(news) to a list(nav mgr list) in the
master page.
Unfortunately it doesn't work this way because NavMgr is .net based
and holds it's own navindex
by referencing they look connected but still won't be able to
communicate.
You need to physically connect the news pages
If that doesn't work you can also use preexecute and some asp script.
If you need to display the number of links ABOVE the list then you
have two ways:
insert the list twice and iterate two times
1. to count the list
2. to display the items
(thats a bad thing with large numbers of pages and will
gratuitous plug
Its no help to you right now, but we are working on Visual Studio
