Problem in read sys call

hi all, I am trying to read a binary file of size (8192 * 116) bytes on RH linux 6.2 using system call read(). In Chunks of 8192 bytes. It reads fine for a couple of times but at certain times it fails at 8180th byte, also what would happen if 8180th byte is NULL. Can any one help me why
