What about restart failing when no files have been modified?

think there's more to it...
if you are running a primary dns for a domain,
you should update your serial number in the SOA record
- if you do not change the serial numbers...
- you are asking for some wierd problems to occur...

Restarting named updates the running named...
either reboot or
/etc/rc.d/init.d/named stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/named start
(for some reason "restart" does not always
work...)
