Hello Ed,
I thought about the problem and remove the line. What I did is added my IP
address to the hosts files and off it whent. I know how I hate spam, so
there is no need for it to even touch one of my servers ! :)

its not hard to install, but i suggest screwing the rpms if you have a fast

I posted my solution the other day. Make sure your gpm is running with options
like '-t ps/2 -m /dev/mouse' and make sure your XF86Config has the mouse
protocol as IMPS/2 and you have 'ZAxisMapping 4 5' ju

i actually have a little bash script like that to do it, but i thought i was
overlooking some simple option in tar...guess not. seems like a pretty
common operation, don't you think? i just downloaded 19 .tar.bz2 files for
the new kde-3.0, didn't wanna untar them all manually...

try 'tar xvzf' (you need z for the gzip format). Yes, 'tar xvzf *.tar.gz'
or *gz or whatever will work.

I've obviously gone mental this week. ;-) I looked at the
ownership/permissions on /var/log/httpd but for some reason didn't look at
the parent directories. The problem was incorrect permissions on the log
directory.

Hi Bill, thanks for your email. rpm -V logrotate shows no errors. I
have restared the kernel logger and system logger and this has had no
effect. One thing I have noticed is that minilogd keeps running and
doesn't seem to hand off the logging responsibilities to syslogd.

It turns out to be a problem with xinetd. I was using redhat packaged
xinetd-2.3.3-1. After I compiled xinet-2.3.4 from (http://www.synack.net/xinetd/)
,installed the xinetd binary, and restart xinetd. sgi_fam will stay alive if I do
telnet localhost fam_port

line parameters specified with a "-" or "--", you're going to have to
settle for having the "-" in the middle of the name, somewhere.

Here is what I did to solve the problem:
I ran up2date -u rpm-perl from a shell prompt. It downloaded the rpm-perl
and then the rest of the packages that I had been missing.
