Once the partition has been formatted, you can mount it temporarily
(e.g. under /mnt/temp) and move the files.  Then go ahead and mount the
partition permanently as whatever mount point you want to make it, and
then either edit /etc/fstab or use the filesystem tools as root to make
the change permanent.

Be careful in picking out which files you move, because you could
seriously disrupt your system, and you'd have to re-install.  Check the
filesystem section of the manual.
