not tried, involves using the pwcheck
utility that comes with sasl. Pwcheck runs as a daemon with root access and
is able to access the shadow password file.
I actually ended up using a MySQL database to store usernames and password
files.

I am able to get photos from a Nikon Cool pics 900 to my Linux box. I have
a PCMCIA reader installed in the computer. I simply use this to transfer
photos in. Let me know if you would like more info.
