Thanks to all who helped I now have this figured out. The details: Red Hat 6.2, kernel 2.2 16-3, IP masquerading set up with Pmfirewall, rp3 used to set up internet connection and wvdial as the dialler. I selected Red Hat>Internet>Dialup Configuration Tool. In the box that opened, I selected the
