compiling modules RH 9.0 smp , kernel mismatch

Hi, I've a stock RH 9.0 2.4.20-18.9smp kernel installed. It boots fine and everything works ok. I'm now trying to install alsa and ivtv packages. When I try and run configure in the alsa-driver directory, it insists on thinking that it should compile modules for 2.4.20-18.9custom kernel as oppose
