I am using/testing RPM 4.0.3 to build packages as root and have found some
weird inconsistencies. Or perhaps it's my naivety to the tool.

Q1: How does RPM know to pick up your .rpmmacros file? This .rpmmacros file
has my redefiniton of %topdir.
Q2: Where should I place this .rpmmacros file? And why there?
I'm limited on RPM resources, plus I'm new to this so any help or advice is
greatly appreciated.

Well, I know that ldd in the reference that I am familiar with(RPM) is
usually for determining automatic depenencies..or what shared libraries a
package/program requires..

only given the the exectables to some new application and asked to pakage them
with RPM. Is this possible to package them without source code? Does
one need the pristine sources(.h,.cpp..?) to build, install and package?
