It's one of those things... I don't NEED anonymous ftp but I left it on
anyway. Either way, I had noticed last week that I had a few anonymous ftp
connections which raised my suspicions but I didn't see anything else that
alarmed me. But after getting back from a trip, I took a peek at my logs and
Okay,
so my dmesg does report that it's seeing my Yamaha CD-RW as sr0 but it also sees it
as hdc. Is this the conflict? and if so how do I fix it? (I did turn off IDE ATAPI
support in the kernel). Either way, when I do a mount -t
iso9660 /dev/sr0 /mnt/yamaha, I'm getting the "Wrong fs type..."
How do I make my mp3s and mpegs open automatically in xmms and mtv respectively? I
went tooling around with mime types but have been unable to figure it out.
Thanks,

I just installed a yamaha cdrw which in order to get working, I had to
turn off CDROM IDE services in my kernel and use SCSI emulation instead.
Well after a lot of work, I got the cdrw working but now I find I can't
mount any CDs at all. I changed my /etc/fstab cdrom entry from hdb to
scd1 and add
I had problems with a Lynksys 10/100 card because of a Tulip driver thing so
I went down to Frys and bought a $19 D-Link 10/100 card that worked

I'm trying to set the default app on .mp3 files to Xmms but setting this in
Gnome control center has no effect. I've set the mime types as a user and as
root but clicking .mp3 apps are still opened in mp123. I also set them in

So,
peicing together some of the tips (none of which totally worked but they got me
going n the right direction) I found this solution: Delete the damn thing.
Now if I had it to do over again, I'd have saved my bookmarks... oh well. Here's
what to do.
1) cd ~/.netscape
2) cp bookmarks.html /../bo
I spent the better part of my Sunday getting my new Yamaha CD-RW working.
After recompiling my kernel without IDE CD support and turning on scsi
emulation, I was able to see the drive in cdrecord. I started taking a look
at some different software packages and still have yet to find anything
great

I'm getting an error at startup that I'm guesing is the problem with me
playing audio CDs. I ran dmesg and found this:

I've installed xfree86 on my RH 6.2 machine and after a ton of research, I

I decided to try installing xfree86 4.0 last night and paid the price. Ouch.

I'm having problems playing audio cds on my system. I'm using:

I am getting a "Wrong medium" error when I try to mount a cd. I'm not
sure what the cause is but I can work around it by restarting (not a
great workaround!) I saw a post on RedHat about this but there was no
explanation as to how to fix it. Anyone know?

I bought a Crystal chipset 16pnp ISA card to use with my RH 6.2 machine and
have been investigating how to set it up. Thus far, I've read that I need to
specify the IRQ and turn off PNP in my bios. I have yet to find the IRQ
