There is a config for vsftp in pam.d
I commented out the line relating to shell, and its working now
#%PAM-1.0
auth required /lib/security/pam_listfile.so item=user sense=deny
file=/etc/vsftpd.ftpusers onerr=succeed
auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
strange...this works on RH8 but not 7.2
any ideas ?
