I have suddenly lost the ability to print from my laptop to my printer,
which is hanging off my server. Detail:

I run RH73 on the server (which is just an old Gateway PC) and RH8 on my
Laptop (Dell Inspiron 2650C). I connect to the internet via RoadRunner
cable, through a Netgear websafe router. Both the laptop and the server
get IP addresses through that router.

Printing has worked perfectly up until recently, and I'm wondering if it
has to do with the dynamic assignment of IP and hostname, which occurs
periodically when the DHCP lease renews.

I configured printing as follows:

ON THE SERVER, I changed the lpd.perms file to contain only a
DEFAULT=ACCEPT line.

ON THE LAPTOP, I have the following in my hosts file:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain dhcppc3
192.168.0.1 router
192.168.0.2 joshua
192.168.0.3 GW2000
192.168.0.4 laptop

This was working, but now when I print from the laptop I get the
following:

Get_local_host: hostname 'dhcppc2' bad

When this has happened before, I have been able to set my laptop hostname
to localhost and printing is ok. That doesn't work now.

Any suggestions? Is there a good source of information about how to set
up network printing over a simple cable modem dhcp home network like mine?

Regards,

Bill Johnson
