As long as localization is on everyone's mind, I've got another question
that is hopefully a no-brainer (I can't find the right FM to read).

When I print from X, using Star Office or gedit, everything is formatted
correctly for US Letter paper size. However if I try lpr random.file
from a console, the print is set up for A4 (I actually had some A4 to
test - it isn't just printing too close to the margins). And in gedit,
if I go to the paper size and click on the 'set to machine default'
button it will set the paper to A4.

However entering localization at the command prompt gives all LC_US
entries, including paper size. I configured the printer with Printtool
and specified US_Letter as well.

Is this an lprng configuration issue? Possibly a printer driver issue?

RedHat 7.0 up2date (latest lprng) and an HP DeskJet 820Cxi.

Cheers,

James
