Can't change IP number

Dear All, I can't seem to change the IP number of a Redhat 4.2 box. All the files /etc/hosts etc all have the new number but rebooting the computer always leads to its using its old IP number. netcfg reports that the new number has been set. It just diesn't work. Any clues Cheers Rees
